Streicher's 65 Leads UNC To Top Of NCAA Regional Standings
May 11, 2026 | Women's Golf
North Carolina senior Megan Streicher set the UNC record for the lowest round in an NCAA regional as she shot 5-under-par 65 Monday in the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf Chapel Hill Regional at UNC Finley Golf Club.
The three-time All-ACC honoree from Cape Town, South Africa, made six birdies and only one bogey in taking the 18-hole lead and helping the Tar Heels hold the top spot in the team standings after day one of the 12-team regional.
Carolina shot 6-under 274, five strokes ahead of Texas (-1). Virginia is third at 1 over and Mississippi State and Oklahoma State are tied for fourth at 2 over. NC State is sixth (+3) and Michigan State is seventh (+6).
The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 22 in Carlsbad, Calif.
Streicher's 65 is the lowest ever by a Tar Heel in an NCAA regional, edging Ashley Prange's 66 in the second round of the 2003 regional in Clemmons, N.C.
Carolina's 274 total today is the program's best for strokes in a regional (previous was 276 in the third round in 2023 in Pullman, Wash.) and 6 under par equaled its third-best score to par in a regional.
Ing Iadpluem and Reagan Southerland carded 1-under 69s and Marie Prats-Rigual shot 1-over 71.
Streicher's 65 is a season low and her 24th career round in the 60s. She lowered her season scoring average to 70.60, which is on pace to break the school record she set two seasons ago (71.83).
Streicher is the clubhouse leader in the individual standings. Cindy Hsu of Texas and Princeton's Thanana Kotchasanmanee are tied for second at 4-under 66, Virginia's Elsie MacCleery is fourth at 3 under and Iadpluem and Southerland are among a group of players tied for fifth at 1 under.
