TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 9 Carolina women's soccer began its road trip out west with a match against Arizona Thursday night in Tucson. The Tar Heels grinded out a 2-1 victory against the Wildcats.

How it Happened
Carolina's offense got off to a slower start leaving the team without a shot attempt until the 15^th minute. Within the following five minutes, the Tar Heels took three shots but were unable to score.

Down the stretch in the first half, Scottie Antonucci drew a penalty from the Arizona defender. The freshman stepped up to take the PK but was stopped by the Wildcat's goalkeeper.

The Tar Heels got one more shot off in the final five minutes of the first half but ultimately remained scoreless heading into the break.

The teams started the second half knotted at 0-0.

UNC came out aggressive on the attack in the second half resulting in a goal in the 48^th minute. Once again, the Tar Heels found themselves drawing a penalty. This time Summer Denigan stepped up to take the PK and recorded the first goal of the game. The midfielder has now scored in four consecutive matches.

In the 75^th minute, Bella Devey fought to net the Tar Heels' second goal of the night. Riley Kennedy found Devey inside the 18-yard box to record her sixth goal of the season while extending Carolina's lead, 2-0.

Four minutes later, Jessica Ariz Bedolla from Arizona scored to bring the Wildcats within one.

Despite the late goal by Arizona, the Carolina defense was able to hold off their attack the remainder of the match resulting in a Tar Heel victory, 2-1.
