TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 9 Carolina women's soccer wrapped up its road trip with a 1-0 victory over Arizona State Sunday afternoon in Tempe. With the shutout win, the Tar Heels remain unbeaten on the road this season.

Summer Denigan led the way for Carolina scoring the lone goal for the Tar Heels. Once again, the midfielder converted on a penalty kick for the second straight match and third time overall this season. Denigan extends her scoring streak to five games.

How it Happened
The match proved to be a defensive battle early on. Carolina took the first shot of the match 18 minutes after kickoff. Lilliah Blum took the shot but missed out on top of the goal. After another nine minutes of action, UNC took for the first corner kick of the match but was unable to produce a goal.

In the 33^rd minute, Scottie Antonucci drew a penalty inside the box. Summer Denigan stepped up to take the penalty kick for the Tar Heels. The midfielder buried the PK in the top right corner of the goal to give Carolina an edge at 1-0.

The Tar Heels' defense continued to hold strong only allowing one shot by the Sun Devils in the first half. They headed into the break ahead by one.

Just three minutes into the second half, Arizona State looked to score with their second shot of the match. Carolina goalkeeper Peyton Trayer stepped up to secure the save keeping the Sun Devils at bay.

UNC seemed to be gaining momentum on the offensive end as they took three corner kicks within a five-minute window. They were unable to produce another goal despite the chances.

Carolina continued to work on the defensive end, eventually securing the shutout win, 1-0.
