Women's Golf Hosts NC Challenge Cup At Finley Saturday

Carolina women's golf hosts the North Carolina Challenge Cup, a one-day, 36-hole tournament on Saturday at UNC Finley Golf Club.

Competition begins at 8:45 a.m. Admission is free and parking is available for the public at the Finley Field Lot by the soccer/lacrosse/track complex on Old Mason Farm Road.

The 12th-ranked Tar Heels are the highest-ranked team in the field, which also includes UAB, Elon, Gardner-Webb, Michigan State, NC Central, UNCG, UNCW, Presbyterian, Queens, USC Upstate, William and Mary and Wingate.

The Tar Heels have won two team events this season and finished in the top three in each of their last three starts – winning the Chevron Challenge in Texas, placing third in the Florida Gators Invitational and second in Hawai'i in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.

Carolina's lineup for the NC Challenge Cup includes Helen Yeung, Reagan Southerland, Ing Iadpluem, Marie Prats-Rigual and Grace Ridenour.

Inez Ng, Katie Vu and Ellen Yu will also compete as individual entries.

Megan Streicher will not play this weekend as she competed earlier this week in the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

Southerland (71.33) and Yeung (71.88) both are averaging sub-72 for the season. Southerland won a share of the individual title in Puerto Rico in February, and Yeung has finished in the top 12 in each of the last three tournaments, including ties for second at the Chevron and seventh in Gainesville.
