Softball Walks It Off Once Again, Moves To 17-0
February 28, 2026 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – It was another magical day at Anderson Stadium that featured yet another come from behind walk off win for the Tar Heels.
Â
This time it was a walk off fielder's choice with a throwing error to seal the 17th consecutive win for the Tar Heels.
Â
Shelby Barbee got the party started in the first with an RBI double down the right field line. It was her 25 RBI of the season. 25 RBI in 17 games and 39 at bats eclipses her career high for a single season which was set last year in 54 games played and 128 at bats.
Â
Michele Tarpey scored a second run with an RBI groundout.
Â
In the fourth inning, Boston College would punch back, taking the lead with a three spot on a fielders choice and a single. Lindsay Lumsden came in to pinch hit and laced a single up the middle to tie the game back up at 3-3.
Â
The Eagles wouldn't go away however, jumping back in front in the fifth. The Tar Heels didn't wait long to tie things back up as Emily LeGette blasted her ninth home run of the season, sending a laser to left center field.
Â
In the top of seventh, Kendall Frost re-entered the game with runners on first and second and no one out. She got the first batter to fly out to right field which moved the runners to second and third with one gone. Then Sanaa Thompson happened. A ball was sent to the middle of left center field, deep enough to attempt to score, but also shallow enough for Thompson to have a shot at the double play. She settled under the ball and fired a rocket to Rayna Blackwell to held on to the ball for the final out of the inning to get out of the jam.
Â
Thompson led off the inning by reaching via an error by the first baseman, Lexie Roberts moved her over with a bunt. BC pitched around LeGette and walked her on four pitches to set the stage for Shelby Barbee.
Â
Barbee sent the first pitch to the second baseman, who flipped to the shortstop to get LeGette. Barbee had already reached first when the shortstop fired it to first but the ball got away and Thompson walked home to seal the victory for the Tar Heels.
Â
Carolina will go for the sweep tomorrow at noon on ACCNX.
