How it Happened
The Tar Heels created early opportunities to score, taking five shots in the first 16 minutes. The best look Carolina found early came from Sealey Strawn in the 16th minute. The freshman nearly missed, hitting the top woodwork.
Louisville gained some momentum in the 30th minute taking two shots and back-to-back corner kicks. The UNC defense held strong to prevent a Cardinal goal.
In the 36th minute, Hope Munson met the ball at the top of the 18-yard box. She took a quick touch before driving the ball with her left foot into the bottom right corner, netting the first goal of the night. The sophomore's goal gave UNC an edge at 1-0.
The Tar Heels held the Cardinals to zero shots the rest of the first half to maintain a one-point lead heading into the break.
Louisville leveled the score 14 minutes into the second half. The Cardinals scored off a header from a set piece.
Just four minutes later, Munson took the ball on the right side before dribbling outside the top of the box. The defender took the long strike, blasting the ball to the top right corner of the goal. Munson's goal helped Carolina reclaim the lead at 2-1.
Once again, Louisville evened the score with a goal in the 72nd minute.
The Tar Heels continued to work on the offensive end, later reclaiming the lead in the 79th minute. Shaela Bradley dished the ball to Munson outside the top of the box. Yet again, the sophomore took a touch before burying the long shot past the goalkeeper into the top left of the goal.
