Men's Tennis Opens Main Draw Action At ITA Regional Friday

COLUMBIA, S.C.—The main draw of the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional began on Friday, and University of North Carolina players won six singles matches and four of their first five doubles matches at the Carolina Tennis Center on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
Will Mayew, Niels Ratiu, Chris Xu, Nick Mangiapane, Ian Mayew and Sebastian Sec all won their initial singles main draw matches. Sec had one of the bigger wins of the day when he topped 34th-ranked and No. 2 seed Paul Barbier Gazeu of the host Gamecocks. Xu also picked up a ranked win by defeating No. 77 (and No. 6 seed) William Manning of NC State. Mangiapane won his third match in two days after winning both of his qualifying draw opportunities on Thursday.
In doubles action, Carolina got victories from the teams of Lachlan Gaskell and Mangiapane, Will Mayew and Sec, Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer and Ratiu and Xu.
Main draw and consolation draw action will continue on Saturday.
