Ian Mayew & Xu Advance To ITA Regional Main Draw Semis

Both Tar Heels are a win away from qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championship.
COLUMBIA, S.C.—Ian Mayew and Chris Xu posted big singles wins on Sunday and advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 Intercollegiate Carolina Regional at the Carolina Tennis Center.
Both Tar Heels are just a win away from earning bids to the 2026 NCAA Singles Championship, to be held next month in Orlando.
Mayew, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., beat the ITA's #117-ranked player, Matisse Farzam of Clemson, in straight sets by a 6-4, 6-4 score. Xu, a Canadian junior, came from behind to topple Clemson's Henrik Bladelius in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Mayew is seeking his second consecutive NCAA trip, while Xu hopes for his first as a singles player.
In doubles action, Tar Heel sophomores Mayew and Kase Schinnerer posted a ranked win over #27 William Manning and Jules Leroux of NC State, 8-5, to move on to the semifinals.
The ITA Carolina Regional will conclude on Monday in Columbia. Both singles finalists and the doubles champion will earn berths into the 2026 NCAA Individual Championships.
