Tar Heel Men Continue Play At ITA Regional Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C.—University of North Carolina men's tennis players won four singles matches and a pair of doubles appearances in main draw action on Saturday at the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional at the Carolina Tennis Center.
Niels Ratiu, Chris Xu, Ian Mayew and Sebastian Sec all won their singles matches on Saturday morning to advance to the round of 16. In doubles action, the teams of third-seeded Ratiu and Xu and 11th-seeded Mayew and Kase Schinnerer both moved on to the quarterfinals.
Weather became a factor on Saturday, forcing some of the day's action to move indoors and altering the schedule of play.
After moving inside, Xu topped Cornelius Alexander Shalmi of Wake Forest in three sets to advance to the quarterfinals.
Both singles finalists and the doubles champion will earn berths into the 2026 NCAA Individual Championships.
The ITA Carolina Regional will continue on Sunday and conclude on Monday in Columbia.
