Six Tar Heels Named To Men’s Soccer All-ACC Academic Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina men's soccer placed six Tar Heels on the 2025 All-ACC Academic team, the league announced on Thursday. Riley Berge, Andrew Cordes, Dylan Kropp, John McDowell, Parker O'Ferral and Bertil Rygaard Hansen qualified for the team for the combination of their work in the classroom and on the field.
To be named to the All-ACC Academic team, an individual must have a 3.0-grade point average for the previous two semesters and 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career, while being enrolled at the institution for at least one year and being classified as an undergraduate student. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team's athletic contests.
Berge appeared in 17 matches, starting the last 15, during the 2025 season. He went at least 90 minutes 15 times for a defense that finished the season ranked 26th nationally in goals against average. He logged 1,406 minutes and scored a fantastic goal, the first of his career, against Memphis.
A four-year starter, Cordes handled the goalkeeping duties in 69 matches during his career, including all 20 matches in 2025. He finished the year with a .830 goals against average and a .734 save percentage. Cordes and the defense tallied eight clean sheets on the year.
A second-team All-ACC, All-South Region selection and a first-round pick in the MLS SuperDraft, Kropp anchored a defense that finished the season ranked 26th nationally in goals against average. He started all 20 matches and played 1,825 of a possible 1,840 minutes during the season. Kropp also contributed to eight shutouts and scored one goal on the year.
McDowell appeared in 11 matches in 2025 as a member of the midfield unit. He was called upon twice to take penalties during the NCAA Tournament and converted both. He logged a season-high 18 minutes versus St. Thomas.
A three-time All-ACC Academic team member, O'Ferral appeared in 56 matches during his four-year career, including 14 matches as a senior. He logged 241 minutes on the year supporting both the defense and midfield and played a season-high 42 minutes against Virginia Tech.
Rygaard Hansen started all 20 matches in 2025, posting three goals and four assists for 10 points. He tallied 35 shots and 16 shots on goal as part of the Tar Heels' attack. His contributions were highlighted by a brace against Virginia Tech and a goal and an assist versus Lipscomb.
