Berry Named Director of Field Hockey Operations

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Long time member of the Carolina field hockey staff Garyn Berry has been named the team's new Director of Field Hockey Operations head coach Erin Matson announced on Tuesday.

"Garyn has been a part of this family for a long time and now it is just official," Matson said. "His kindness lifts up everyone around him and his work ethic makes this program better and we are so lucky to have him as a part of our team."

Berry, who has worked for the program since the 2022 season, moves into this new role after serving the last two seasons as a graduate assistant. He started his time with the Tar Heels as a student manager.

In his now four seasons on staff, the Heels have won two national titles, three ACC Championships, and 67 games overall.

A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, he is a two-time graduate from UNC. He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics in 2023 and his Masters in Sports Administration in 2025.
