
Women’s Tennis Advances To Super Regional With 4-0 Win Over South Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina kept its winning ways going, blanking South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship, 4-0, from the Chewning Tennis Center on Saturday.
Riding a 10-match winning streak, the fifth-seeded Tar Heels have now won 18 out of their last 19.
Overall, the Tar Heels are 25-4 on the season and 4-1 all-time against the Gamecocks.
The Tar Heels stayed dangerous in doubles action, clinching the point in their 28th out of 29th match this year.
"They're a team of fighters; they compete. I knew it was going to be a battle, and I'm proud of how our team came out in doubles," said head coach Brian Kalbas.
Tatum Evans and Theadora Rabman brought home the first set in doubles on No. 3 at 6-3. A few minutes later, on No. 1 Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton took down the No. 10 double's pair at 6-4 to secure the point before heading into singles action.
Carolina started strong with the first set victories on five of six courts. Hamilton carried her success over from the doubles point, winning the first singles points of the afternoon for Carolina, 6-0, 6-0 in dominating fashion.
Rabman took down South Carolina's Olympe Lancelot, 6-2, 6-1, on No. 3 to move to 5-0 in singles action this season. Coming down to court No. 6, it was freshman Claire Hill who clinched Carolina's bid to a super regional with a two set victory at 7-5, 6-3.
The Tar Heels will face off against 12th-seeded NC State in the Super Regional on Friday May 9 at 5 p.m. at the Chewning Tennis Center.
