Women’s Tennis Cruises To 4-0 Win Over VCU In NCAA First Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Kicking off NCAA Tournament action from the comfort of home, No. 5 overall seed North Carolina withstood a weather delay to return to play midway through singles and send VCU packing, 4-0.
Carolina remains hot, riding a nine-match winning streak, and it has won 17 out of its last 18. Overall, the Tar Heels are 24-4.
The duo of Susanna Maltby and Carson Tanguilig got the ball rolling, making quick work on No. 2, 6-1. Following shortly afterward, Theadora Rabman and Lindsay Zink clinched the doubles point for Carolina on No. 3 with a 6-1 victory of their own and earned their second win as a duo.
The Tar Heels remain on a tear in doubles action, clinching the point in 27 out of 28 matches this year.
Following a lengthy rain delay, the Tar Heels returned to play in singles midway through most first sets. Moving to 4-0 on No. 3 this year, Rabman grabbed Carolina's first singles point to go ahead 2-0.
Racing to the finish, Claire Hill continues to cruise on No. 6 to earn Carolina's third point of the day at 6-1, 6-3. Within minutes, Reese Brantmeier sealed the win for Carolina on No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
The Tar Heels return to action on Saturday for NCAA second round play, taking on South Carolina. First serve from Chewning Tennis Center is set for 4 p.m.
