CHARLOTTE, N.C./ LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The throwers took center stage on Friday, April 25. Tommy Kitchell and Kate Joyce each won their event.

The trio of men's shot putters had a great start to this weekend's competition, as all three finished in the top five. Tommy Kitchell (18.52m) won the Men's Shot Put Invitational. Spencer Williams (17.90m) landed a mark that was good for 42nd in the east region, while Ethan Ritcher (17.58m) rounded out the top five.

Carolina claimed first and second in the women's javelin. With her first throw of the meet, Kate Joyce (53.66m) took the lead and never fell out. Julia Moraitis held onto second place from the second throw of the day.
