Back-To-Back! Women’s Tennis Blanks Virginia To Win 2nd Straight ACC Championship
April 20, 2025 | Women's Tennis
CARY, N.C. – Meeting for the third time this season, No. 2 seeded North Carolina women's tennis came up big and in a dominant fashion to defeat No. 4 seed Virginia, 4-0 at the 2025 ACC Women's Championship from Cary Tennis Park on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier this season, the Cavaliers beat the Tar Heels twice in a pair of 4-3 decisions in January and February. It was a different story on Sunday in Cary.
The Tar Heels bring their 13th ACC championship back to Chapel Hill and do so for the second straight season.
"We talked the whole tournament just making it about us. Make it about us, don't make it about them, don't make it about the things that we can't control," said head coach Brian Kalbas. "Ultimately, the message was just to compete. Just tried to make a statement that its about us and seeing how far we've come."
The Tar Heels continue to ride their winning streak with eight straight victories and have won 16 of their last 17 matches. Overall, Carolina sits at 23-4.
The pair of Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton came out on fire on No. 1 against the top-ranked doubles duo from UVA with a swift 6-1 victory. The No. 1 duo for Carolina is now 21-2 this season. In a back-and-forth affair on No. 3, Tatum Evans and Theadora Rabman pulled away to earn a 6-3 victory and clinch the doubles point for UNC.
Remaining dangerous in doubles, Carolina has clinched the doubles point in 25 out of 26 matches this season.
Carson Tanguilig rolled on No. 5 to get the Tar Heels going in singles, earning a quick 6-0, 6-2 victory with sights closing in on a trophy. Over on No. 6, Claire Hill was fast and furious to take her match in a 6-2, 6-0 win.
With the energy palpable, all sights turned to No. 1, where Brantmeier locked in to grab a 6-2, 6-1 win and clinch a 4-0 sweep of Virginia for Carolina's 13th ACC title. Brantmeier earned ACC Championship Most Valuable Player honors for her efforts.
