No. 19 Rowing Places Third In Benderson Cup Standings At Sarasota 2K
March 29, 2025 | Women's Rowing
Chapel Hill, N.C. – The 19th-ranked University of North Carolina rowing program produced three Top 3 finishes in the Grand Finals at the Sarasota 2K to finish third in the Benderson Cup standings on Saturday. The 1V4 placed second in its final, while the V8 and 2V8 both crossed the line third. All three boats won their heats on Friday to qualify for the Grand Finals.
Â
"We're very proud of how these Tar Heels represented themselves this weekend," said head coach Erin Neppell. "All three crews who raced turned in gritty performances and handled the windy conditions with a lot of composure. We feel good about finishing on the podium as a team and we'll enjoy that this weekend, but it's right back to work on Monday. We know we want to find more speed and we'll work hard in the coming weeks to try and do just that."
Â
The 1V4 of coxswain Katelyn Hawley, Anni Stamer, Maria Anayiotou, Gabrielle Postiglione and Evelyn Wells took second in the Grand Final with a time of 7:21.79. The Heels were just 3.5 seconds behind UCF and finished ahead of Kansas St., Miami, Dartmouth and Iowa. The group won their heat on Friday in a time of 7:27.49.
Â

The group crossed the line behind UCF and Dartmouth and ahead of Michigan St., Iowa and Miami. They clocked a 6:41.24 on Friday to win their heat.
Â
The 2V8 of coxswain Cara Cunningham, Madelaine Johnson, Molly Dansby, Ava Balukonis, Anna Lily Laborde, Claudia Quintaba, Cam Howard, Sophia Korbani and Madison Haller also crossed the line third with a time of 6:43.00.
