Baseball Sweeps Third Straight Series

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In its final non-conference series of the season, North Carolina baseball pulled off yet another sweep by beating Stony Brook, 9-5, on Sunday.
Â
The Tar Heels (12-0, 0-0 ACC) had a steady stream of offense throughout the nine capped off by Tyson Bass' first home run of the year to put the game to bed in the bottom of the eighth. It is the fourth time in program history the team has started 12-0.
Â
Starter Aidan Haugh put together his second high quality start of the week after a stellar outing on Monday at East Carolina. Today he threw 6.1 innings, racked up eight strikeouts (which would have been a career high had he not recorded 10 on Monday), and only allowed two runs. It is only second time in his career that he's had 6+ strikeouts in back-to-back games.
Â
Small ball started the scoring for the Tar Heels in the early going on Sunday. Junior Kane Kepley reached safely for the seventh time in the team's leadoff at-bat with his seventh HBP of the season. He came around to score to make it 1-0 in the first.
Â
A four-run fourth that gave Carolina some breathing room was powered by a pair of sac flies and a single from Bass. The Lucama, N.C., native had four hits in his five at-bats on the day, driving in four runs and scoring twice himself.
Â
First baseman Hunter Stokely wrapped up a phenomenal weekend with three hits, a sac fly, and a walk on Sunday. In the three games against Stony Brook, he slashed .556/.643/1.000 with six RBIs, five hits, four runs, and four free passes.
Â
The Tar Heels are back to action in the Bosh on Tuesday with a highly anticipated showdown against Coastal Carolina. Tickets are still on sale and streaming will be live on ACCNX.
