Rowing Posts Nine Race Wins At Cardinal Invitational
March 16, 2025 | Women's Rowing
Chapel Hill, N.C. – The University of North Carolina rowing program posted nine race wins over the course of two days at the Cardinal Invitational on Saturday and Sunday to open their 2025 season. The Tar Heels started with a 6-0 day on Saturday against Navy followed by three additional race wins on Sunday versus Alabama and host Louisville.
Â
"There were a lot of strong performances across the entire program this weekend and we're happy about that," head coach Erin Neppel said. "We gave kudos to the fours and the V8, in particular, for their times on a fast course. It's early in the season and we have a lot of work to do, but we feel like we are moving in the right direction, for sure. We also have to thank the folks at Louisville for getting the races in that we did. It was really difficult with all the weather challenges, so we appreciate how they navigated the weekend."
Â
The fours and the V8 finished first in each of their races on Saturday and Sunday. The V8 posted a 6:29.830 to defeat Navy on Saturday and improved to 6:22.408 on Sunday to better Alabama and Louisville. The 1V4 opened the weekend with a win over Navy (7:23.380) and then clocked a 7:09.724 on Sunday to take down Bama and UL. The 2V4 turned in a 7:25.767 to cruise past Navy and followed that with a 7:14.484 to beat the Crimson Tide and Cardinals.
Â
The 2V8 notched a victory on Saturday over Navy turning in a time of 6:43.825, while the 3V8 placed first in 6:53.588.
