Tar Heels Top Waves, 4-1

EVANSTON, Ill. -- In the first round of the 2025 ITA National Team Indoor Championship, the No. 8 North Carolina Tar Heels (7-1) defeated the No. 15 Pepperdine Waves (1-5), 4-1 in Evanston.
Despite its number two doubles duo winning, Carolina fell on courts one and three and dropped the doubles point for the first time this season.
Transitioning to singles play, North Carolina quickly forgot its doubles point loss as five Tar Heels won their first sets in singles action.
Later, on court one, Reese Brantmeier picked up a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-1) on court one to even the match at one point a piece. Next, Alanis Hamilton gave Carolina the lead with her own straight-set victory (6-4, 6-0) on court three. Then, Carson Tanguilig inched North Carolina closer to a match win after she won, 6-3, 6-0 on court four.
Finally, on court six, freshman Claire Hill sealed the Carolina victory with a 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 win on court six.

Carolina will face ACC foe Virginia in the second round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship tomorrow. North Carolina's lone loss of the season came at the hands of the Cavaliers earlier this month.
