Gymnastics Ranked No. 24 In WCGA Preseason Poll

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association released the 2026 Preseason Poll Tuesday evening. The University of North Carolina women's gymnastics program came in at no. 24 in the poll. This marks the highest preseason ranking for UNC since 2007 and the fifth consecutive season earning a preseason ranking under head coach Danna Durante.
The Tar Heels finished last season ranked in the top 25 for just the fourth time in program history. Carolina closed out the season at the Tuscaloosa Regional finishing sixth.
UNC heads into the 2026 campaign led by key returners Gwen Fink and Kaya Forbes. Fink was crowned ACC Co-Champion on beam after posting a career-high score of 9.9 for the fourth time last season.
Forbes moved into third all-time in program history after notching a career-high 9.925 on vault in the 2025 ACC Championships. The senior also qualified for the 2025 Gymnastics National Championships as an individual competing on vault.
The Tar Heels will open the season on the road in a quad meet hosted by Florida Jan. 9. Carolina will face no. 3 Florida along with Temple and West Virginia opening weekend in Gainesville.
UNC will then return to Carmichael arena for their home opener Jan. 18 as they host ACC foe Stanford. Single meet tickets available now at goheels.com.
