• Carolina improved to 2-0 this season, 2-0 at home.
• The win snapped a five-game losing streak by the Tar Heels to Kansas. It was UNC's first win over the Jayhawks since 11/27/2002 in Madison Square Garden.
• Carolina's 13-point victory marked the largest margin of victory by UNC against Kansas, breaking the previous high of 11 points on 12/11/1959 and 11/27/2002.
• UNC is 7-7 against the Jayhawks all-time, including 1-0 in the Smith Center.
• The Jayhawks were the 152nd different opponent to play UNC in the Smith Center in a regular season or postseason game.
• Carolina shot 51.5% from the floor for the game (34 for 66) and improved to 37-1 when shooting 50% or better from the field under head coach Hubert Davis. It was the first time the Tar Heels shot over 50% against a ranked opponent since a 2/8/2020, a 98-96 loss to No. 7 Duke.
• UNC improved to 61-9 when scoring 80 or more points under Davis.
• UNC trailed by eight points at the half. It was the first time UNC won when trailing at the half since beating UCLA in Madison Square Garden on 12/21/2024.
• The Tar Heels shot 66.7% from the floor in the second half, their highest second-half percentage since shooting 78.1% against NC State on 2/10/2018.
• UNC improved to 491-90 all-time in the Smith Center, including 234-19 against non-ACC opponents.
• Carolina's 58-point second-half is its highest scoring second half since scoring 59 against Dayton on 11/25/2024.
• The Tar Heels committed 10 first-half turnovers that led to 17 KU points. In the second half, UNC turned the ball over just once.
• Kansas outscored UNC, 17-2, in points off turnovers in the first half. In the second, UNC held a 12-2 advantage.
• Carolina scored 48 points in the paint, its most since the Tar Heels had 54 on 2/17/24.
• The game included a 26-point swing. Kansas led 37-27 in the first half and Carolina led by as many as 16 at 73-57 with 8:27 to play.
• UNC freshman Caleb Wilson's led all scorers for the second time in as many games with 24 points (he has 46 in two games).
• Wilson is the first Tar Heel ever to score more than 20 points in his first two games. Cole Anthony is the only other Tar Heels to score 20 or more in his first two games (he had 34 against Notre Dame and 20 at UNCW).
• Wilson was 9 for 12 from the floor, had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
• Wilson is the second Tar Heel freshman ever to total at least 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in a game. Coby White did that against Virginia Tech on 1/21/2019 (White had 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals).
• Only four Tar Heels have ever totaled at least 27-7-4-4 in a game – Wilson, White, Mike O'Koren (three times) and Walter Davis.
• Wilson led all players in plus/minus at plus 21. He was plus 17 in the second half.
• Wilson's 24 and Henri Veesaar's 20 points marked the first time two Tar Heels scored at least 20 points since 2/3/2024 against Duke, when Armando Bacot scored 25 and Harrison Ingram 21.
• Veesaar tied his career high with two three-pointers and scored 20 points for the second time in his career (22 vs. Arizona State last season).
• Kyan Evans had no points and no assists and was minus 6 in the first half. In the second half, he scored 12 points, had three assists and two steals and did not commit a turnover.
• Zayden High made his first collegiate three pointer.
