November 15, 2025 | Men's Tennis
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Five members of the University of North Carolina men's tennis team are headed to Orlando for next week's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at the USTA National Campus. Competition will begin on Tuesday November 18 and continue until Sunday November 23.
Three Tar Heels have qualified for the singles tournament: senior Roan Jones, freshman Ian Mayew and junior Niels Ratiu. Two UNC doubles teams also qualified: Ratiu with sophomore Chris Xu and Mayew with fellow freshman Kase Schinnerer.
Carolina's three singles qualifiers tie the most in program history in a single season and are its highest total since 2016, when Brett Clark, Brayden Schnur and Ronnie Schneider made the field. UNC's two doubles qualifiers also tie the school record and are the team's most since 2023, when the duos of Casey Kania/Ryan Seggerman and Brian Cernoch/Benjamin Kittay both made the field.
Mayew is UNC's first freshman to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship since Benjamin Sigouin in 2018.

"We've had an excellent fall, and we're excited to have three singles players and two doubles teams set to compete in Orlando," head coach Sam Paul says. "We're clearly focused on the spring dual season as well, but this has been a successful individual season this fall and we're ready to keep the momentum going."
