November 10, 2025 | Men's Basketball
North Carolina's Caleb Wilson, a 6-10 freshman from Atlanta, made a splash in his first two games as a Tar Heel last week, pouring in 22 points against Central Arkansas and 24 against Kansas.
On Monday, the Atlantic Coast Conference named him the ACC Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week along with Virginia Tech's Neoklis Avdalas.
Wilson totaled a game-high 24 points with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in Friday's win over Kansas, becoming just the second Tar Heel freshman (with Coby White) and fourth Tar Heel regardless of class (with Walter Davis and Mike O'Koren) to have at least 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in a game. He was a plus 21 vs. the Jayhawks, including plus 17 in the second half as Carolina rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to a 13-point win.
Wilson started and scored a game-high 22 points in college debut vs. Central Arkansas last Monday. He was 40th Tar Heel to start first game as a freshman, and the 22 points were the fourth-most by a UNC freshman in first game.
Through two games, Wilson is averaging 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting 81.0 percent from the floor (17 for 21 FGs). He is the first Tar Heel freshman to score more than 20 points in first two games (22 vs. UCA and 24 vs. Kansas).
Wilson is the first Tar Heel to win ACC Player and Rookie of the Week in the same week since Cole Anthony did so early in the 2019-20 season.
