Women’s Soccer Hosts North Dakota In Thursday Doubleheader

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carrying its momentum from a successful home-opening weekend, the fifth-ranked North Carolina women's soccer team is set to host North Dakota at Dorrance Field on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET. The match will air on ACCNX with Dean Linke and Kyle Straub on call.
Following the women's match, UNC Men's Soccer will host FIU at 7:30 p.m. ET as part of doubleheader action. Tickets, which are available for purchase here, will gain access to both events.
Additionally, Thursday's doubleheader will be Dogs at Dorrance. Fans bringing dogs will be required to sit in Sections 19-21.

Following the retirement of Anson Dorrance – the Tar Heels' first and only women's soccer head coach to date – on Aug. 11, associate head coach Damon Nahas will serve as interim head coach while UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham conducts a national search.
Nahas is in his ninth complete season at UNC this year. Dorrance has high praise for him, saying that "Damon is the best coach I've ever seen. I think he's the best soccer coach in the country, and I include myself in that circle."

Ten Things to Know:
- This is the first meeting between North Carolina and North Dakota in program history.
- Olivia Thomas was named the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 27. She earned the first such honor of her career after a brace against Georgia and another goal vs. Arizona. She was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
- Thomas is currently tied for first in the NCAA with 14 shots on goal. She leads the team with eight points (three goals, two assists) which is tied for third in the conference.
- Carolina is coming off a 2-0 win over Arizona on Sunday afternoon for its first shutout of the year. Goalkeeper Clare Gagne has played every minute between the posts.
- UNC's backline has held opponents to just six shots per game and only 2.75 shots on goal per game. All four opponents have been held to five shots on goal or fewer.
- Two Tar Heels have had braces this season: Kate Faasse scored in the 88th and 90th minutes at Colorado, and Thomas netted goals in the 61st and 64th minute against No. 16 Georgia.
- Eight of UNC's 11 goals this season have come in the second half. Five of those eight second-half goals have come in the 70th minute or later, with three of them being scored in the final three minutes.
- UNC checked in at No. 5 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll for the second week in a row. The team has been ranked for 515 consecutive weeks.
- The Tar Heels are 415-33-21 all-time at home, a winning percentage of .910. UNC has outscored its opponents 1709-233 all-time at home, including 134-25 since Dorrance Field opened in 2019.
- Junior forward Maddie Dahlien was named to the U.S. U-20 National Team which will compete in the 2024 FIFA U-20 World Cup from Aug. 31-Sept. 22 in Colombia. She left for national team duty on Aug. 20 after playing in the first two games of the season.
