Ten Things To Know:
- This will be the first-ever meeting between North Carolina and Arizona in program history.
- The Tar Heels have one player, junior Kate Faasse, who hails from Arizona. She's from Phoenix, about an hour and 45 minutes northeast of Tucson.
- UA's head coach, Becca Moros, played at rival Duke. The last time she was in Chapel Hill was as a player in 2005 where she scored twice – including the game-winner in the 88th minute – against UNC for a 2-1 Duke win. That was the second of only four Duke wins over Carolina in the all-time series.
- Carolina has had first career braces in back-to-back contests: Faasse scored in the 88th and 90th minutes at Colorado, and Olivia Thomas netted goals in the 61st and 64th minute against No. 16 Georgia.
- Eight different players have recorded at least one point. Faasse (three goals) and Thomas (two goals, two assists) top the roster with six each.
- UNC's freshman class has already made a big impact. At least four rookies have earned at least one start. Bella Gaetino has two goals and Linda Ullmark has two assists. Trinity Armstrong and Ullmark lead all freshmen with 216 minutes.
- The Tar Heels' defense has held opponents to an average of seven shots per game and only 3.33 shots on goal per game.
- UNC checked in at No. 5 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. The team has been ranked for 514 consecutive weeks.
- Junior forward Maddie Dahlien was named to the U.S. U-20 National Team which will compete in the 2024 FIFA U-20 World Cup from Aug. 31-Sept. 22 in Colombia. She left for national team duty on Aug. 20 after playing in the first two games of the season.
- Two former standouts in Crystal Dunn and Emily Fox won gold with Team USA in Paris. It was the USWNT's fifth Olympic gold; at least two Tar Heels have been on all five of those rosters.
