
Softball Splits Doubleheader On Final Day Of Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina softball team (11-2) split its doubleheader in the final two games of the Carolina Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels dropped a 1-0 decision to Lipscomb, before bouncing back with an 8-0 run-rule victory over Mount St. Mary's.
Carolina went 6-1 on the week and 5-1 in the home tournament.
The Tar Heel pitchers shined in the circle on Sunday, with sophomore Kenna Raye Dark, freshman Nikki Harris and senior Talia Hannappel allowing just one run in 12 innings. Harris threw six innings against the Bisons, tallying six strikeouts and giving up just one run, a solo home run.
In the second game, Dark set a new career-best of eight strikeouts and allowed just three hits in five innings, picking up her second win of the weekend.
Freshman Kate Bubela led the Tar Heels with a .667 batting average on the day, going 4-of-6 at the plate with back-to-back two hit games. Both junior Alex Coleman (13) and freshman Sanaa Thompson (11) extended their hitting streaks with three hits on the day, while redshirt sophomore Isabela Emerling hit her fifth home run of the season against the Mountaineers.
The Tar Heels also went 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts on Sunday, finishing the seven-game week with 32 stolen bags in 34 attempts.
Carolina will be back in action against on Tuesday, hosting NCCU for a 5 p.m. Tuesday matchup at Anderson Field.
