Women’s Soccer Seeks 23rd National Title On Monday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After defeating top-ranked Duke in the College Cup semifinals, North Carolina women's soccer punched its ticket to the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament title game for the 28th time in program history – one step closer to its 23rd national championship.
The Tar Heels will take on fellow No. 2 seed Wake Forest on Monday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. ET at WakeMedSoccer Park in Cary. The game will air nationally on ESPNU with Marion Crowder, Jenn Hildreth and Lori Lindsey on call.

NCAA Tournament Tidbits
- North Carolina extended its streak as the only team to appear in all 43 NCAA Tournaments.
- The Tar Heels have an all-time record of 152-18-5 (.883) in the NCAA Tournament.
- Carolina has won 21 of 42 NCAA titles, plus the 1981 AIAW title for 22 national championships.
- Carolina is making its 32nd College Cup appearance, including five of the last seven. No other team has been in more than 14.
- UNC has advanced to the national title game 28 times, including four of the last seven, and has finished as the national runner-up on six occasions.
- The Tar Heels have been a No. 2 seed 12 times before, winning five NCAA crowns as a second seed, including its last title in 2012.
- This is the fourth time UNC has reached the championship match as a No. 2 seed, also doing so in 2012 and 2022.
- The Tar Heels are 21-5-1 all-time in the NCAA final, having out-scored its opponent 70-15.

Ten Things to Know
- This will be the 41st all-time meeting between North Carolina and Wake Forest. UNC leads the all-time series at 35-2-3. The Tar Heels have out-scored the Demon Deacons 120-15 all-time, including 20-3 in the last 10 meetings. UNC has shut out WFU 29 times.
- Monday will be the fifth meeting between UNC and WFU in the NCAA Tournament, and first since 2009. The Tar Heels lead 4-0 in NCAA contests.
- This will be the second meeting this season between the two teams. Carolina beat Wake, 1-0, on Sept. 12 in Chapel Hill after Faasse's game-winning goal in the 27th minute.
- Faasse became the nation's outright leading scorer with 20 goals after converting a PK in the semifinals vs. Duke. Her 44 points rank first in the ACC and second in the NCAA.
- Faasse's 44 points and 20 goals are the most by a Tar Heel in a single season since Casey Nogueria had 58 and 25, respectively, in 2008. She is the eighth UNC player to record 40+ points in one year since the turn of the century, and the fourth with 20+ goals.
- Anchored by Aven Alvarez, Trinity Armstrong, Elgin, Bella Gaetino and Clare Gagne, UNC's defense has allowed just one goal during the NCAA Tournament. They have 15 shutouts on the year.
- A junior, Faasse was named a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Soccer. She is the first Tar Heel to be named a semifinalist since Brianna Pinto in 2020-21.
- Faase is the first UNC player to be named First Team All-America since Pinto in 2020. Armstrong is the first UNC rookie to earn All-America honors since Alessia Russo also landed on the second team in 2017. Dellarose was named to the fourth team. All three were also named to the All-Atlantic Region Team.
- This is the 25th 21+ win season for the Tar Heels in school history, and first since 2019. A win on Monday would mark the 21st 22+ win season.
- Interim head coach Damon Nahas is the fifth UNC head coach to take their team to the national championship game in their first season at the helm. This is the third consecutive year a UNC first-year head coach has done so.
