
FH Staff Earns NFHCA Regional Honor

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After leading the program to its 27th Atlantic Coast Conference title and its 28th final four appearance, the North Carolina Field Hockey coaches have been named the NFHCAÂ South Region Coaching Staff of the Year.Â
The Tar Heels are led by second-year head coach Erin Matson, the 2024 ACC Coach of the Year, and an experienced group made up of assistant coaches Caitlin Van Sickle, Manuel Garcia Nieto, and Romea Riccardo, performance analyst Scott Sherban and graduate assistant Garyn Berry. The award makes the 12th time that the Carolina staff has won the South Region honor.Â
Carolina finished the season with a 20-1 record, claiming their eighth straight conference title. This staff coached their team to being the best in the nation in goals per game (3.86), points per game (11.24), scoring average (4.05), scoring margin (3.50), and goals against average (0.50).Â
The coaches are now in the running for the National Staff of the Year award, which UNC has won in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022.Â
