Men’s Soccer Trio Named All-Region

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Three North Carolina men's soccer players have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region teams, the organization announced Wednesday.
Riley Thomas (First Team), Martin Vician (Second Team) and Sam Williams (Third Team) earned postseason honors for the Tar Heels.
Thomas, a defender from Atlanta, Ga., started all 18 matches for the Tar Heels this season, playing a team-best 1,636 minutes in the field. Thomas was an integral part of the Carolina back line, helping the Tar Heels post seven shutouts, and the second-best scoring defense in the ACC. Named to the 2024 ACC Preseason Watch List, Thomas earned postseason honors from the league for the second consecutive year.
Vician earned All-ACC honors for the first time during his two seasons in Chapel Hill this fall, previously earning All-Conference recognition twice prior to arriving at Carolina.
The Bratislava, Slovakia native ranked in the top-five in the ACC in goals, goals per game and game-winning goals, leading the Tar Heels in each category. Vician found the back of the net in seven matches this fall, posting three multi-goal efforts.
Williams started all 18 matches for Carolina this fall, scoring four goal and dishing out two assists. Williams played the full 90 for the Tar Heels in 14 matches this season, logging 1,591 minutes.
The junior midfielder for the Tar Heels earned All-ACC honors for the third consecutive season in November.
The trio helped Carolina earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the 31st time in program history, including the 16th in the last 17 seasons.
