November 18, 2024 | Men's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's soccer program has earned an at-large bid to the 2024 NCAA Division I Championship, the NCAA announced Monday afternoon.
Carolina will host Furman, Thursday evening at Dorrance Field, in the first round of the tournament. The Paladins won the Southern Conference Championship on Sunday, entering the match against the Tar Heels with a 9-3-5 mark.
The program continues a longstanding tradition of NCAA Championship soccer, making the postseason for the 31st time overall, and the 16th time in the past 17 seasons. Head coach Carlos Somoano, in his 14th season at the helm of the Tar Heels, has guided Carolina to the national tournament 13 times.
The Tar Heels are 43-25-11 all-time in the NCAA Tournament entering this weekend. Last season, Carolina advanced to the program's 14th quarterfinal appearance, including the 10th in the past 16 seasons.
The first-round matches (Nov. 21), second round (Nov. 24), third round (Nov. 30-Dec. 1) and quarterfinals (Dec. 6-7) will be held at campus site, hosted by the higher seed in each matchup.
The 2024 NCAA Division I College Cup will be held Dec. 13 and 16 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
