Rowing Looks Back On Successful Alumni Weekend
October 14, 2024 | Women's Rowing
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – More than 40 UNC rowing alums had the opportunity to relive old memories and make new ones at the program's annual Alumni Weekend.
Â
"The weekend was an absolute hit," said head coach Erin Neppel, herself a Carolina alum. "We got to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, hear all the stories, and reintroduce our amazing alumni to the program and our current student-athletes. They're excited about what we're doing, and we can't wait to welcome what we are sure will be an even bigger crowd next year."
Â
The weekend kicked off with Friday evening social time and dinner at the Loudermilk Center, giving former Tar Heels from different eras the chance to get acquainted. The evening also included a tour of the erg room, which didn't exist in its current form for nearly all of the graduates present.
Â
A highlight was the Alumni Row Saturday morning at Jordan Lake, at which some watched the action from pontoons and an alumni 8+ took to the water for a few pieces with the team. "The alumni took full advantage, jumped the start, and absolutely went for it - tons of fun," Neppel said. "No backs thrown out or hamstrings pulled, so it was a win for everyone."
Â
With a home football game, the group headed for tailgating and then to Kenan Stadium, for viewing from one of the Tar Heel Patio Suites on a lovely fall afternoon.
Â
"It was such a fun event," Neppel said, "and we can't wait to do it again next fall."
