October 13, 2024 | Field Hockey
BOONE, N.C. – North Carolina field hockey got big performances from its top playmakers in a dominant, 5-0 victory over Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Tar Heels (10-0, 4-0 ACC) got a hat trick for the second straight week from sophomore forward Charly Bruder, a trio of assists from Pleun Lammers and more goals from Ryleigh Heck and Molly Catchpole in their penultimate road contest of the season.
Â
The reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week thanks to four goals and two assist in the team's California road trip last weekend, Bruder will have a good argument to claim the award once again after three goals on Sunday. Â Her first two came from corners in the sixth and 46th minutes before she completed the hat trick in the 48th off an impressive assist from Heck.
Â
Bruder and Heck continue to light up the score sheet for the Tar Heels. The dynamic duo have 20 goals and 14 assists combined on the season.
Â
It was a career day for Netherlands native Lammers, who recorded career highs in assists and points with her hat trick of deliveries on Sunday. The tallies moved her into a tie with Sanne Hak for the third most points on the team this year.
Â
The Tar Heels return home for four straight games in Karen Shelton Stadium over the next two weekends. The first of which will be a conference clash with Wake Forest on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.
