
Carolina Picks Up First Win Of Indoor Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The UNC women's tennis team (1-0), defeated the Elon Phoenix (0-1) 7-0 on Saturday afternoon. Saturday marked the team's first match of the 2024 indoor season and its first home dual match since winning the regional championship versus Florida to cement a spot at the 2023 NCAA team Championships last season.
Prior to the match, the 2023 NCAA Championship members were surprised with their championship rings.
In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty quickly gave UNC the doubles point advantage after winning 6-0. The No. 3 duo of Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran clinched the doubles point, giving the Tar Heels the early 1-0 lead entering singles play. Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig also picked up a 6-2 victory despite North Carolina already winning the doubles point.
In singles action, Elizabeth Scotty quickly put the Tar Heels up two points after winning 6-0, 6-0. Abbey Forbes followed suit with a 6-0, 6-2 victory to give UNC its third point.
Reese Brantmeier, playing No. 1 singles, clinched the match when she won 6-0, 6-1. Despite clinching the match, Thea Rabman, Carson Tanguilig and Lindsay Zink each picked up wins.
North Carolina will host Campbell on monday in its second of four home matches to begin the 2024 indoor season.
