Wiltrout Wins Third Career ACC Javelin Title

ACC Championships Day One Recap
RALEIGH, N.C.—North Carolina senior Madison Wiltrout won her third career Atlantic Coast Conference women's javelin title on Friday, pacing the Tar Heels on a strong Day Two of the 2023 ACC Championships at the Paul Derr Track.
After setting overall ACC and ACC Championship records in the javelin a year ago in 2022, Wiltrout won her third conference title in a row with a season-best 58.51m effort. She bested her closest competitor in the event by over four meters and moved into third in the NCAA this season with her effort. Teammate Cash Rodriguez also scored points in the javelin, finishing fifth at 48.51m (159-2).
After two of three days of competition, the UNC men sit in fourth place and the women are tied for fifth.

Other Tar Heel Highlights:
• Freshman Spencer Williams had a personal-best effort in the shot put at 55-9.25, finishing eighth overall as the only underclassmen in the final.
• All four Tar Heels who competed in the men's decathlon scored points for UNC by finishing in the top eight—Max Stakun-Pickering (fifth place), Bryce Kazmaier (sixth), Isaac Young (seventh) and Sam Corley (eighth).
• Blaise Atkinson set a new personal record in the men's 110-meter hurdles prelims, moving into the No. 8 slot on Carolina's all-time performers list in the event at 14.04 seconds. Atkinson moves on to Saturday's final heat.
• Brianna White posted a personal-best finish in 52.73 seconds in the women's 400m. She will take part in the women's 200m and 400m final heats on Saturday.
• Sasha Neglia finished fifth in the women's 3000m steeplechase in 9:57.10.
The ACC Championships will resume on Saturday at noon for the final day of competition. Due to the likelihood of increasing thunderstorms and lightning later in the evening on Saturday, the schedule for the final session at NC State's Paul Derr Track has been changed. The first field events will begin at noon – two hours earlier than originally scheduled – with running events now set to begin at 3 p.m. The revised schedule is as follows:
