ACC Championships Day Two Recap
RALEIGH, N.C.—Four Tar Heels won medals and two won conference titles on Saturday's third and final day of the 2023 ACC Championships at the Paul Derr Track on the NC State campus.
The Carolina men finished sixth while the women were eighth in the final team standings.
Ethan Strand and Parker Wolfe finished first and third, respectively, in the men's 1,500m. Both set personal bests: Strand in 3:38.13 and Wolfe in 3:40.01. Teammate Jesse Hunt was right behind in fourth place in 3:40.16 to give the Tar Heels three scorers in the event. Strand is the first Tar Heel to win the men's 1,500 meters at ACC Outdoors since 1978.
Craig Saddler II won the men's 400-meter hurdles in a personal-record time of 49.84, becoming the first Tar Heel title winner in the event in five seasons. Saddler is now just the fourth UNC male under 50 seconds in the 400mH in school history.
Brianna White ran a lifetime-best 52.34 in the women's 400m to take third place and put herself in the third slot on the all-time Carolina performers list in the event.
Meanwhile, freshman Blaise Atkinson scored points for the Tar Heels by finishing seventh in the 110m hurdles after previously scoring as one fourth of the men's 4x100 relay team that finished eighth.
