Diamond Heels Set To Do Battle With No. 11 ECU
February 24, 2023 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- On Friday, No. 12 North Carolina will venture outside the friendly confines of Boshamer Stadium for the first time this season as the Diamond Heels travel to Greenville, N.C. for the first two games of a three-game series against No. 11 East Carolina at Clark LeClair-Stadium Friday and Saturday.
Â
Game three of the series will be Sunday at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill.
Â
The Diamond Heels are coming into the series on a four-game winning streak where they outscored their opponents 39-6.
Â
The Pirates are coming off a 6-5 extra innings loss at Campbell on Tuesday after sweeping George Washington to open the season.
Â
This is second straight season that the Tar Heels and Pirates are playing a three-game weekend series and third time overall. UNC won the two games at Boshamer Stadium, while ECU won the matchup in Greenville.
Â
Junior Max Carlson, who started game two of the series against ECU last year, will get the start in game one Friday. Carlson started the season-opener against Seton Hall a week ago and lasted 4.1 innings, surrendering four runs.
Â
Carlson will be opposed by right-handed pitch Trey Yesavage. Ranked as one of the top 50 prospects for the 2024 MLB Draft, Yesavage struck out a career-high seven batters against just one walk in 5.0 innings against George Washington last Saturday.
Â
The Diamond Heels will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak in Greenville and earn their first win at Clark-LeClair Stadium since 2017.
