Heels Win Suspended Game Against NC State; Will Play Doubleheader Sunday

The game was suspended Friday night in the top of the fifth inning with game tied at 1-1 and Horvath on second base with one out.
The Diamond Heels (26-17, 9-13 ACC) scored five times in the sixth inning to open a 7-3 lead as Vance Honeycutt led off the frame with a solo home run and Hunter Stokely blasted a 3-run homer with two outs. Tomas Frick doubled into the corner two batters later, plating Johnny Castagnozzi from first base to cap the outburst.
NC State (29-14, 11-10) battled back to tie the game in the seventh when Noah Soles doubled off the left field wall with two down to drive J.T. Jarrett.
Senior Gage Gillian (2-3) took the mound in the bottom of the eighth and retired all three men he faced to give UNC the opportunity to go ahead in the ninth.
With a one run lead, Gillian came back out for the ninth and sat down the Pack in order to earn his first win since February. He allowed one hit with a pair of strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched.
Justin Lawson (4-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs on three hits in 3.0 innings pitched.

• Horvath raced home on a ball batted back to the pitcher that was not fielded cleanly in the fifth (UNC 2, NCSU 1).
• LuJames Groover singled up the middle in the bottom of the fifth to knock in two runs (NCSU 3, UNC 2).
• Honeycutt leads off the sixth inning with a home run (UNC 3, NCSU 3).
• Stokely hits a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning and Castagnozzi scores from first on a double by Frick (UNC 7, NCSU 3).
• Noah Soles scored on a wild pitch, Eddie Eisert on and Devonte Brown on an error in the bottom of the sixth (UNC 7, NCSU 6).

Saturday's scheduled game has been postponed because of inclement weather. The two teams will play a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
