Baseball Drops Series Finale To Wake Forest
May 15, 2022 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL – The Diamond Heels were unable to complete the three-game sweep of Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon as the Demon Deacons took the series finale 11-2 at Boshamer Stadium, snapping Carolina's five-game winning streak.
Wake Forest (35-16-1, 12-14-1 ACC) scored 10 runs across the first three innings, highlighted by a grand slam from Jake Reinisch in the third inning.
Brendan Tinsman and Nick Kurtz got the Deacons on the scoreboard with back-to-back home runs in the first inning.
Reinisch and Kurtz collected three hits apiece in the Deacons' 17-hit attack.
"Wake Forest is one of the best offensive teams in our league and that showed today," UNC Head Coach Scott Forbes said. "You make mistakes against a good offensive team that's what happens.
"You hate to lose, but a loss is a loss is the way I look at it. You flush it, you move on and get ready for a great week."
UNC (31-19, 12-15) scored both of its runs off solo home runs; Angel Zarate to lead off the first and Alberto Osuna in the eighth. Zarate and Danny Serretti led the Diamond Heels with two hits apiece.
NOTABLES
• Danny Serretti extended his career-long hitting streak to 24 games with a single in the bottom of the first inning.
• Zarate hit his third leadoff home run of the season.
• Shawn Rapp made his NCAA leading 36th pitching appearance of the season.
