Diamond Heels Open Homestand With UNCW

CHAPEL HILL – The Diamond Heels open a four-game homestand Tuesday, welcoming in-state foe UNCW to Boshamer Stadium prior to hosting ACC Coastal Division rival Virginia Tech for a three-game weekend series.
Tuesday's midweek game is schedule for a 7 p.m. start and will be televised on the ACC Network.
With the series dating back to 1976, North Carolina (18-6) is 62-16 all-time versus the Seahawks (13-10) and have won four straight in the series, including a 14-9 victory in Chapel Hill last season.

Entering week seven of the season, the Diamond Heels are ranked in the top 20 in five major polls, peaking at No. 14 in Collegiate Baseball, while being ranked No. 15 in Baseball America and No. 18 in the D1 Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches polls.
Carolina will be looking to start a new winning streak Tuesday night after being swept at Miami over the weekend, while UNCW posted a 1-2 record this past weekend in its three-game series at William & Mary.
Junior college transfer Brandon Schaeffer, who threw just 55 pitched and tossed only 2.1 innings at Miami on Friday night, will take the mound for the Diamond Heels. He'll be opposed by UNCW right-handed pitcher Zane Taylor.
In three non-conference starts, Schaeffer posted a 2.63 ERA with 17 strikeouts against four walks in 17.1 innings pitched. He posted two quality starts in those three outings.
The Diamond Heels have won 20 straight games at home dating back to last season, including 16 straight to open the 2022 campaign. They have outscored their opponents by 85 runs (118-33) in those 16 games.
