#1 Women's Tennis Rallies For Road Win At Notre Dame
February 25, 2022 | Women's Tennis
NOTRE DAME, IND. - No. 1 North Carolina won its opening Atlantic Coast Conference match of the season and set a new program record with its 35th consecutive ACC regular season dual match victory with a 6-1 win over No. 29 Notre Dame on Friday afternoon.
North Carolina (12-0, 1-0 ACC) dropped the doubles point for the second time in as many matches, but rallied to remain unbeaten on the season and run its winning streak over the Fighting Irish to 12 in a row.
Cameron Morra and Carson Tanguilig, who struggled during the run to the ITA Indoor national championship two weeks ago, were the lone Tar Heel tandem to earn a doubles victory from court two.
The hole to dig out from became even steeper for the visitors after Notre Dame (7-2, 0-1) won four of the six opening singles sets, however, the Tar Heels didn't flinch in capturing all six singles matches.
Anika Yarlagadda closed out her match to square the score at 1-1 from court five, 7-5, 6-2, over Meghan Coleman.
Moments later, No. 7 Cameron Morra gave UNC a 2-1 edge with a 6-4, 6-3, victory over Julia Andreach on court one.
Freshman No. 25 Carson Tanguilig put the Tar Heels one point closer to clinching with a comeback victory on court four, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.
No. 35 Fiona Crawley secured the win from court three, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, over Nibedita Ghosh.
No. 13 Elizabeth Scotty and Alle Sanford also rallied on courts two and six, respectively, to finish up the singles sweep for the Tar Heels.
Carolina heads to Louisville for a Sunday match at noon.
