
Women Tennis Posts Comeback Win Over UVA At ITA Indoors

MADISON, Wisc. - The No. 2 North Carolina women's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over No. 7 Virginia on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship from the Nelson Tennis Center.
North Carolina (9-0) will face No. 6 NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The Wolfpack picked off third ranked Georgia, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon.
The Tar Heels suffered their first loss of the season in doubles to fall behind 1-0, but rallied with four-straight singles victories to reach the semifinals. Virginia (7-1) suffered its first loss of the 2022 spring campaign.
Trailing 1-0 for the first time all spring, Carolina quickly switched momentum in its favor by winning four of the six singles matches in straight sets to take out the Cavaliers in the first ever meeting between the two ACC rivals at ITA Indoors.
No. 27 Elizabeth Scotty knotted the match at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over No. 54 Elaine Chervinsky on court two.
Freshman No. 14 Carson Tanguilig gave UNC its first lead of the match after posting a 6-3, 6-3, win on court five.
No. 74 Anika Yarlagadda won 6-1, 6-0, on court six and No. 19 Fiona Crawley put the nail in the UVA coffin with a victory on court four.
Carolina has won seven straight matches over the Cavaliers.
UNC took out NC State, 4-1, in the only previously meeting at ITA Indoors in 2020.
