No. 2 UNC Tops Ohio State, 4-1, At ITA Indoors

MADISON, Wisc. - No. 2 North Carolina made quick work of No. 11 Ohio State in the opening round of the 2022 Women's ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The two-time defending title holders won the doubles point and ultimately cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Buckeyes from the Nielson Tennis Center.
North Carolina (8-0) got off to a fast start in doubles. Court one's 13th-ranked duo of Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty were first to post a win, 6-3, and later Alle Sanford and Reilly Tran secured the early 1-0 advantage by winning 6-2 on court three.
Scotty, who entered the national rankings this week for the first time in 2022 at No. 27, continued her outstanding singles play this spring with a dominating, 6-2, 6-0, performance over No. 21 Isabelle Bolais on court two.
Ohio State, who has already lost to Duke and NC State this spring during a trip to the Triangle three weeks ago, picked up its lone point on court one to shave the Tar Heel lead to 2-1.
The Buckeyes momentum was quickly halted when sophomores No. 7 Reilly Tran and No. 19 Fiona Crawley closed out the match with straight-set wins from courts three and four, respectively.
Carolina improves to 3-0 against Ohio State at ITA Indoors and has now won 10-straight opening matches in the event going back to 2013.
