CHAPEL HILL - Back on the court for the first time since winning the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Feb. 7, the No. 1-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team swept a pair of in-state foes, 7-0, on Tuesday inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels dispatched of Charlotte (7-3) in the afternoon, before turning their attention to Appalachian State (1-3) in the evening. North Carolina (9-0) has equaled its program record with 27-straight dual-match wins, a record that was first set back in 2015, and has won 38 consecutive home matches.
The win over the 49ers was highlighted by fifth-year seniors Sara Daavettila and Alexa Graham both earning their 134th career singles wins, moving past Sanaz Marand (133 career wins) for second on the program's career wins list. Hayley Carter owns the ACC record with 168 victories from 2014-17.
The quartet of Fiona Crawley, Alle Sanford, Reilly Tran and Anika Yarlagadda each went 2-0 in singles play, while Kacie Harvey and Makenna Jones earned singles wins against the Mountaineers. The win for Jones was her 102nd at Carolina, tied with Chloe Ouellet-Pizer for 12th in Tar Heel history.
