Carolina Takes Out Miami To Complete Weekend Sweep

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 1 North Carolina women's tennis team defeated No. 27 Miami on Sunday afternoon in Coral Gables. The Tar Heels secured the win with a final score of 6-1 to continue their undefeated streak with a record of 14-0 following wins over Florida State and the Hurricanes this weekend.
In doubles play, No. 19 Makenna Jones and Alle Sanford put up the first point with a score of 6-1. No. 4 Sara Daavettila and Alexa Graham clinched the doubles point, 6-4, with a win on court one.
Singles play began with a Carolina win on court three by #4 Cameron Morra 6-3, 6-2. Makenna Jones finished shortly after with her own 6-1, 6-3 victory to lift the lead to 3-0.
After a long fought battle, #39 Alle Sanford earned Carolina's clinching point to win the match. She won her first set 6-0, then defended after losing the second set 4-6 with a big win in the third set, 6-4.
#5 Alexa Graham played through to finish with a win of 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 over No. 1 Estela Perez-Somarriba. The victory pushed Graham into solo third in UNC program history with 128 career singles victories.
#6 Sara Daavettila put up Carolina's final point with a 6-1 (5-7), 6-7, 6-4 finish.
The Heels (14-0, 2-0 ACC) are set to take on No. 9 Virginia at home on Friday, Feb. 28.
