Carolina Wins Doubleheader To Open 2020 Season

Chapel Hill - No. 2 North Carolina began the 2020 women's tennis season with two victories over Elon and Charleston Southern on Saturday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels began the day with a victory over Elon, 7-0 and later defeated Charleston Southern, 7-0. These two wins advance UNC's home winning streak to 22 matches.
In the first match of the day, Cameron Morra and Elizabeth Scotty secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court two to give Carolina a 1-0 lead over Elon.
In singles play, #8 Alexa Graham advanced the overall score 2-0 after winning 6-0, 6-0. Graham's win marks her 119th singles win, tying her for the fifth most wins in North Carolina women's tennis history. Shortly after on court one, #2 Morra won 6-0, 6-0. Makenna Jones clinched the win for the Tar Heels with a straight-set victory, 6-1, 6-1. Sophia Patel, #36 Alle Sanford and freshman Kacie Harvey also won their sets in singles play.
During the second match of the day, #6 Sara Daavettila and Alexa Graham grabbed the doubles point to advance Carolina's score to 1-0 over Charleston Southern.
On to singles play, freshman Anika Yarlagadda won in her first collegiate dual match, 6-0, 6-1, advancing the score 2-0. Seconds later, #36 Sanford won on court three, 6-1, 6-1. To secure the win for Carolina, freshman Elizabeth Scotty finished up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Tar Heels (2-0) travel to Las Vegas next weekend for the Freeman Memorial Championship. They will return home to play on Friday, Jan. 24 against Auburn for ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
