Tar Heels Travel to California for UC Irvine/Adidas Invitational

CHAPEL HILL –  Traveling to California for the first time since 2015, the Tar Heels are set to compete in the UC Irvine/Adidas Invitational Friday and Saturday in Irvine, California. The Tar Heels are set to face Cal, UNLV and host UC Irvine at the Bren Events Center. Fans unable to attend can watch a live stream on BigWest.tv.

Recently for the Tar Heels
Carolina hits the road for the first time this season after dropping a pair of matches to top-10 teams, Minnesota and Wisconsin. In her collegiate debut, redshirt-freshman Lauren Harrison led UNC with 21 kills throughout the weekend. Freshmen Skyy Howard, Karenna Wurl and Parker Austin earned starting spots in the Tar Heels' season opener vs. Minnesota on Friday.
Harrison and sophomore transfer Ryan Shannon made their first appearances in Carolina Blue on Friday. Carly Peck made her Carolina debut on Saturday vs. Wisconsin

Coming off a weekend sweep to open the season, California travels south to Irvine for the second weekend of competition. Middle blocker Savannah Rennie was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. The tournament MVP recorded 25 kills and eight blocks in three matches, a weekend hitting percentage of .503.

Series: first meeting
Returning home after a three-match tournament at Oregon, IC Irvine opens their season at home with the Adidas Invitational. Most recently, the Anteaters fell in three sets to Oregon State, No. 11 Oregon and Boston College. Outside hitter Loryn Carter led the team with 21 kills throughout the weekend.

Series: UNC leads 1-0 (UNC won, 3-0 on Sept. 18, 1998 in Chapel Hill, N.C.)
After dropping the season opener, UNLV bounced back with a pair of 3-2 wins over CSUN and Portland at Weber State's Wildcat Invitational. Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, outside hitter Shelby Caplonnch posted 55 kills through three matches, averaging 3.93 kills per set.
