April 7, 2019 | Women's Tennis
CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina seniors Jessie Aney and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer won both their singles and doubles matches to pace the second-ranked Tar Heels to a 7-0 shutout of No. 22 Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon from the outdoor courts at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
North Carolina (24-1, 12-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) completes its home schedule a perfect 14-0 and today's win also extends UNC's winning streak to 15 matches, its longest such streak since winning 21 in row back in 2016.
The doubles point went to the Tar Heel for the 25th-straight time in 2019. Ouellet-Pizer and Makenna Jones cruised 6-1 on court three, and No. 8 Aney and Alexa Graham improved to 16-1 on the season after closing out court one with a 6-3 victory over No. 37 Chandler Carter and Emma Davis.
Freshman No. 29 Cameron Morra continued her excellent rookie season with a 6-1, 6-0, win over Saby Nihalani to make it 2-0 Tar Heels.
Ouellet-Pizer registered career singles win No. 102 on court six, 6-2, 6-2, over Peyton Pesavento.
Graham picked up her 99th career win to clinch the Tar Heel win, 6-1, 7-5, when she defeated Anna Ulyashchenko on court two.
Aney dropped the opening set on court five, but quickly regrouped to post a pair of 6-1 set wins to earn the 122nd singles win of her illustrious career, fourth most in program history.
Juniors Sara Daavettila and Makenna Jones won first set tiebreakers and then had little resistance in their second sets on courts three and one, respectively, to close out the afternoon.
Aney and Ouellet-Pizer have played integral roles in the most successful four-year stretch in program history. The duo has guided their program to the 2018 ITA National Indoor Championships, three ACC Championships, two ACC regular-season titles and compile an impressive 116-11 overall dual match record and a remarkable 60-3 mark against the ACC.
Carolina leads the ACC with a 12-0 mark against the league. The Tar Heels have road matches at Georgia Tech on Friday and Virginia Tech on Sunday next weekend.
