
Tar Heels Dispose Of Syracuse In ACC Quarters

DURHAM, N.C. - Junior Makenna Jones continued her dominance at the ACC Championship in seeing her top seeded North Carolina squad make quick work of Syracuse in a quarterfinals match Friday afternoon at Duke's Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
No. 6 Jones, the MVP of Carolina's 2018 ACC title, knocked off No. 13 Gabriela Knutson, 6-4, 6-0, on court one to give North Carolina a 4-0 sweep of the ninth seeded Orange.
UNC (27-1) will face fifth seed Miami on Saturday in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park. The Hurricanes topped fourth seed NC State, 4-2, on Friday.
Carolina cruised through doubles, however, a tornado warning halted play for nearly an hour. No. 7 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham had already posted a 6-1 win on court one before the break in the action occurred.
Sara Daavettila and Alle Sanford wasted little time after the restart in securing the opening point on court three, 6-2.
No. 118 Jessie Aney was impressive in a victory over Maria Tritou on court five, 6-1, 6-0, for make it 2-0 Tar Heels.
No. 14 Daavettila was next off on court three with a convincing win over No. 97 Miranda Ramirez, 6-3, 6-0.
Jones avenged a loss to Knutson earlier in the season on March 29 to secure the Tar Heels' 11th straight appearance in the ACC Championship semis.
