Tar Heels Set to Finish Fall Slate at Landfall

CHAPEL HILL - The Tar Heels are back in action this weekend for the 18th annual Landfall Tradition at the Country Club at Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. Between October 25-27, 18 teams will navigate the 6,166-yards, par 72 layout of the Pete Dye Course.
"We always enjoy the golf course," said head coach Jan Mann. "It's a very good and challenging course...There is, as always a strong field and good competition for the weekend."
The Tar Heels starting five will consist of Jennifer Zhou, Krista Junkkari, Nicole Lu, Ava Bergner and Kayla Smith. Additionally, senior Mariana Ocano will compete as an individual.
Carolina is coming off of their best finish of the fall season, a sixth-place finish at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Over the course of the tournament, the Tar Heels recorded the second-most birdies by a team with 55 and were among the top five in scoring on par-3 and par-4 holes.
In between the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational and the Landfall Classic, the Tar Heels took a fall retreat to Wilmington. During the retreat, Coach Mann and the team participated in many team bonding activities and participated in a practice round at the Country Club at Landfall. A point of emphasis over the retreat, Coach Mann encouraged the team to remain aggressive on the course but eliminate double and triple-bogeys.
"Looking back at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational we were second in birdies," said Mann. "This team makes plenty of birdies. The area that we have got to really watch ourselves on is you're going to have bogeys. But what we can't have are double-bogeys. One of the goals for this event is to eliminate the double-bogeys and continuing to make birdies."
The Landfall Tradition will begin on Friday morning with pairings teeing off holes No. 1 and No. 10 between 8:30 and 10:36.
