Tar Heels Preview Championship Course In Terre Haute
October 18, 2019 | Cross Country
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of North Carolina cross country teams will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State University at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, the site of the upcoming 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 23. The Tar Heels are set to compete in both the Blue and Open races, with the women's Blue 6K at 11 a.m., the men's Blue 8K at 11:35 a.m., the women's Open 6K at 1:30 p.m. and the men's Open 8K at 2:05 p.m.
With championship season just two weeks away, Carolina will travel a smaller cohort to end the regular season. Freshman Naomi Harding will make her collegiate debut alongside her sister and six other teammates while eight men will look to continue improving their season performances.
The Tar Heels will once again race against some of the best competition in the country. Nine nationally-ranked men's programs, including the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 teams, will join Carolina on the course along with three teams who received votes in the most recent USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll.
The women's team will see 10 top-30 programs in Indiana, including four of the top-10 teams in the nation.
Facing another challenging field, the Tar Heels hope their efforts in the regular season will prepare them for championship season beginning Nov. 1 with the ACC Cross Country Championships hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
